Thailand’s Fact

Do you know that the upcoming Songkran festival or Thai New Year is not only about the intense water fights and wild wet parties? This famous festival does have another side! For the locals, Songkran is one special event where they get day-offs to spend a homely time with their families and friends. The traditional rituals include alms offering, merit making, and paying respect to those you love. So despite having no water events this year, people still get to celebrate (a calm) Songkran at home.

What to Do as Travelers

Those who are in Thailand: Be sure to plan your way of transportation thoroughly especially if you need to get a flight back home at night time. Taxi and private vehicles, such as GrabTaxi, and public transportation still operate in daytime and in the evening as usual, so no worries. However, since the curfew starts at 22:00 PM, it’s likely you cannot depend on private transportation after 9PM (as drivers need time to get back their vehicles as well). So if your departure flight is at night, make sure you leave your accommodation early.
Those who are coming to Thailand soon: Well, to get this straightforward, we don’t really have a suggestion here, since by this time you should probably have cancelled your flight and accommodation as no entry point of Thailand is opening for travelers. However, most measurements still apply until 30 April and the extension has not been announced yet (though, it is likely to). If you have a trip that is in the early May that hasn’t been cancelled, we suggest you contact your service provider early and enquire about future refunds since it cannot be expected that if the emergency decree or strict measurement ends on 30 April, the border will be opened asap on the next day.
Those who are planning to: As mentioned before, planning your trip later this year, things will be way more lively and trips should be more convenient. If the no-travelers measure is removed, by that time public transportation should operate as usual and no more concerns for you regarding how to get from places to places. Though we mentioned before that Thailand’s beach day at the end of the year is also a great idea, check out in detail! Each beach might have good weather in different time e.g. Andaman sea usually has nice weather on November whilst beaches in the Gulf of Thailand are generally nice from December. What to Do as Travelers

Those who are in Thailand: First of all, let’s open your passport and check the visa! If your flight has been cancelled and you still haven’t managed to find the way back home, checking how long you will be here (legally) is a must! Due to this unprecedented situation, visa exemption is a thing for travelers of course. But you do need to make sure you contact your Embassy directly before hand. We suggest you actually CALL them, not walking in, or check their website online. These days regulations change day by day. Plus the major Embassy (like U.S. Embassy) started to not accept non-emergency cases, so you need to make sure you won’t visit your embassy and not getting any application done!

Those who are coming to Thailand soon: Well, if it’s within April, we hope you already request for the refund since non-traveler cannot enter at this time for sure. And, if we’re honest with you, if your flight is in early May, reschedule it instead since the measures are continually extension and has been applied to the neighbor areas of Thailand’s major cities as well.

Those who are planning to: If you are planning to come at the end of 2020, we expect that things should be operating as usual. However, we suggest that you constantly check out the updates on airline since, as we know, many airlines are severely affected by COVID-19 outbreak. Though most airlines stop operating now, there’s a chance that when the measures are decreased, some might permanently cut off their routes. So, it might be better to book them a bit before your departing date to lessen an unplanned change.

What to Do as Travelers

Those who are in Thailand: Definitely, those who just arrived in Bangkok should stay in Bangkok for now. Many has booked their trips in Phuket and is figuring out the alternative way to get there e.g. getting off at Krabi or nearby cities instead. No, we don’t suggest this at all. Now that major (or even minor) airport start to close, plus no operations from most airlines. It would be a very big issue if you can’t get back to Bangkok even by land. And no, loads of tourist may be stuck here with you, so an extension on visa won’t come super fast. We advice that staying in Bangkok is the safest way. Though there is a closure venues, things are operate more usual comparing to other city. Plus, it’s way easier when it comes to dealing with your airline arrangement. But yes, if you are already outside of Bangkok and need air travel, you should contact your Embassy in Thailand concerning their help regulations in the case that transportation services are all closed.

Those who are coming to Thailand soon: If your flight is not so far away, we advice you should unfortunately cancel it and get a refund. Previously, there are venues closure till 30 April and we had hoped things will get better. However, from the situation now, we believe that things won’t completely solved by early May. Major airport and the important destination (like Phuket) just started a more strict regulation, it will be no fun having to travel and figure out solutions all the time. If you can’t get a refund we suggest you change the date to the end of the year instead. Plus if you booked the flight, recheck it if you haven’t received any contact. Many domestic and international airlines stop operate in the major routes till late October!

Those who are planning to: We suggest you started to plan ahead for Winter in Thailand or a trip in early 2021 instead since COVID-19 cases are on the rise and number still won’t go stable soon. Though most people usually visit Thailand’s beaches in Summertime, around April. November is not such a bad time at all! Rainy season has gone by and the weather are not too hot (though it’s still gonna be around 30 degrees). Well, if you’re looking for a Christmasy and New Year Celebration, Chiang Mai and Bangkok will do. The cities are always festive at this time of the year. And by then, Thailand’s tourism industry may starts recovering and the price will be way cheaper comparing to other year! 🙂

And if you are going to try this menu, be ready to put a bottle of water within your grasp! Tom Zab Pork Sparerib is a must try! The amount of chili in this pork broth soup is insane. What to Do as Travelers

Those who are in Thailand: Those who are still in the middle of their trip and have the upcoming domestic flight, we suggest you thoroughly consider this again whether you should get a ticket refund and do so with the accommodation as well. Because, we believe that it would be super unfortunate if your domestic flight back to Bangkok is suspended and you cannot hop on your flight home, from Bangkok, in time. Plus, most venues in other provinces begin to temporarily shut down, not only in Bangkok.

Those who are coming to Thailand soon: Songkran Day is coming soon, though the annual events with lively crowd surely will not be held this April. Many certainly bought the transportation ticket for this period. Of course, it’s not a good time for a trip now. Transport Ministry has launched the regulations on tickets change and refund. If you’ve booked any before March 18, be sure to check it out! This includes full train ticket refund, date and route change for Thai Smile and Thai Airways, passenger name change, etc.
– For train ticket change, Call 1690
– For Thai Airways & Thai Smile ticket change, Call 02-356-1111

Those who are planning to: If you are planning an upcoming trip by avoiding Bangkok, and travel to other province instead. We have to say they are still all risky. Most Thailand’s major cities are now under strict measurement, and nearly all destination has been closed, both venues and even natural attractions. Plus, domestic airlines start cutting off domestic flights. So we suggest, if you could, plan your trip a bit further. Beach days on November, and Thailand in Christmas & New Year time is as amazing as April.

What to Do as Travelers

Those who are in Thailand: As mentioned before, many airlines has stopped operate in Thailand for now, even just for a departure. So, make sure that you flight status is still on a green. Or, it’s a good thing if you seek a back up plan, contact other airline whether if any still operates on your departing dates. If not, contact your Embassy in Thailand and enquire them on this matter e.g. Visa extension.

Those who are coming to Thailand soon: As CAAT has officially announced who can enter Thailand, it is quite solid now that passengers with traveling purposes is a no for now. However, in this case, you should be able to get a refund for the airline as most operations stop.

Those who are planning to: It is highly risky to book anything in spite of the solid CAAT’s restriction. The regulations will go on till the emergency decree ends. However, we cannot be expecting no extension on the decree. So if you are planning on coming at the end of the year, it’s still better to book after the current regulations has been removed, though it’s a short time space between your booking and travel dates.

26 March 2020

Travel Updates:

00:00 AM
EMERGENCY DECREE will be in effect from today. Under this state, people are not allowed to enter the place at risk of COVID-19. Access point to the country is closed, except for diplomat, aircraft officers, foreign with work permit or Thai (required documents concerning health). The restriction also covers the prevention of hoarding and distribution of fake news. See details

What to Do as Travelers

Those who are in Thailand: There is no official announcement on a curfew yet, except for those with health concerns, young children and elders. There’s no need to be worried about hoarding stuff, because supermarket and fresh product shops are operating as usual. What you need to be concerned is to track the status of your flight home frequently, because a large number of airlines starts to stop operating even for just a departing flight.

Those who are coming to Thailand soon: If your flight is before 30 April, that’s the real issue here. There’s a very high chance for it’s to be cancelled because of the closure of access point. Though, airline regulating should inform you by now. Therefore, in this case, the refund and date amend should be possible. And yes, this is disappointing, but traveling here with out anything to do might be worse!

Those who are planning to: Due to the emergency degree, loads of shop decide to close-down (some that are not required to do so as well). So, the only thing is to be patient and wait for things to operate normally before you’ve made a solid plan.

What to Do as Travelers

Those who are in Thailand: Be prepared. If you are on a long holiday and have so many days left here, you better write up plan B how are you gonna spend your holiday especially if there’s a curfew time. Immediately cut out your shopping and hiking session at the national parks since they are definitely close. Some attractions that are less crowded are not closing (yet), so it’s best to contact them directly before visiting

Those who are coming to Thailand soon: Let’s start off with those who may only need a transit in Thailand. Though you are not required a 72 hour issued medical certificate and health insurance anymore, do not forget to check this details for your airport of origin and arrival. They may still need them! For those coming soon, be prepared as the rule gets stricter. You may required more document. Plus, if you have loads of evening travel plan, you might want to think of a back-up if there really is an evening curfew.

Those who are planning to: Well, there’s a high chance that the border control will consist of more regulations or partially close. So the best way is that we’ll wait for the official detailed rules. Though most flights have been cancelled and some not. Things are a bit risky for now. Let’s just plan and see whether the emergency decree will end exactly on 30 April.

• Thailand’s Prime Minister, Prayut Chan-ocha, announced that Thailand is in the STATE OF EMERGENCY. Official Measures related to public safety will be published soon. This may include transportation and travel ban, curfew, building close-down, and service operations pause. See full details

What to Do as Travelers

Those who are in Thailand: The emergency decree and restrictive measures are expected to be effective on 26 March 2020. So, for those whose leaving dates are after that, you need to be prepare your way of transportation (especially airport transfers). In the case that such service like Airport Rail Link are announced to be operating, be aware that the journey may take longer time due to commuter screenings. Contact your airline immediately if you’d like to amend a sooner date.

Those who are coming to Thailand soon: Well, we don’t think this is quite a good time at all. If your accommodation has a free cancellation, then that’s our suggestion. If not, finger-crossed! We advice you contact your accommodation directly as this may be negotiable (and probably hardly anyone put this in their COVID-19 terms & condition on their booking site a few months ago). Yes, in some case, you might lose just a booking fee. And that’s a better way that paying a one week hotel price just to stay inside the room.

Those who are planning to: Of course, planning a trip is a can-do, booking a flight now is still a can-not. Let’s wait for a bit for tomorrow and Wednesday for a more concrete official announcement on the restriction implemented during the state of emergency!

What to Do as Travelers

Those who are in Thailand: If you are in Bangkok, we suggest you to travel in the less-crowded area of nearby cities. However, the best way is to stay in as much as possible or as the number of cases rapidly increases this week. If you are in the middle of your trip, and your next stop is Thailand’s main cities whether north or south e.g. Phuket and Chiang Mai, make sure you keep track of your destination since the major cities with high number of cases might be the next to close down.

Those who are coming to Thailand soon: As Thailand Public Health Ministry has updated the 29 countries of ongoing local transmission, from the previous list of 11 countries, you definitely NEED to keep checking whether the country you are traveling from is in the list or not. Also check the Disease Infected Zone in the link (This includes China, South Korea, Italy, and Iran). You are required different types of documents coming for a different zone. However, what’s all non-Thai traveller need to provide is the medial certificate and health insurance. So, be sure you got that!

Those who are planning to: We suggest you contact your embassy for more details since things would be more difficult if you actually get all the documents for coming into Thailand, but cannot traveling out of your border. It is likely that the regulations of Thailand’s border control will still go on in the next months, so if you need to travel here, we advise you to book the flight just a bit before your travel dates to avoid losing more cost. And, it would be better to wait for the main cities to stop its close-down.

What to Do as Travelers

Those who are in Thailand: Don’t be panic, and there’s no need to hoard! Though the restaurants are ordered to be temporarily close, this DOES NOT mean that there’s no food to eat. Those restaurants and cafes are still allow to operate for takeaways. So, most restaurants are open for a pick-up or delivery service. You can use online food order at GrabFood, LINEman, FoodPanda, etc. Plus, the supermarket both outside and inside the shopping malls are still open as usual.

Those who are coming to Thailand soon: If you are not planning on changing your travel dates. Make sure you keep up to date with each of your destination info, whether they are close or not. Be sure to check if you can get your Medical Certificate in time of your travel dates. However, if you are traveling within mid-April we suggest you change flight and accommodation date if possible, since most venue will still be on a close-down

Those who are planning to: We suggest you wait and see further announcement first before booking anything. The venues close-downs (22 Mar-12April) is a second announcement following the first one on 18 Mar. The situation is considerably unstable for now and it is likely that the venues close-down will be extend later on.

What to Do as Travelers

Those who are in Thailand: If you paid you accommodation for a long holiday in Bangkok we suggest you re-plan you trip. Choose nearby cities for a day trip where things still operate e.g. Ayutthaya, Nakhon Pathom. See further guide on travel destination near Bangkok. You may found that there are way too many things to see than just wandering around the capital city. If you’re staying on private accommodation where you normally cook your own meal, we advise you to stock up some ingredients as the local stores near you may close. But, please DO NOT HOARD, supermarkets will operate normally. Staying in a hotel? Use plenty of online delivery e.g. GrabFood, Food Panda, LINEMan, etc.

Those who are coming to Thailand soon: If your travel dates is months away, then there should be no issue for now. But, if it’s just a month away, there’s a chance that your trip is not gonna be as fun as you expected since places will be closing unluckily! If you can do so, contact your airline and accommodation immediately to figure this out. Can’t refund the flight, but are able to change the accommodation? You may want to consider changing your holiday to other secondary cities (which still provides you with endless activities, of course) e.g. Mae Hong Son, Ayutthaya, etc.

Those who are planning to: Well, you can plan your trip of course. But, DON’T BOOK anything yet! Let’s wait till things get better so you can enjoy the activities and the town to the fullest 🙂

• Bangkok Airways announced the reduction of flights and routes. International routes affected are flights between Thailand – Laos, Hong Kong, Cambodia, Maldives, Burma, Singapore, and Malaysia. Some domestic flights are cancelled as well. See full details here

What to Do as Travelers

Those who are in Thailand: Don’t be panicked! Many airlines still flies the internal flight normally (though less often). Unsure about that? Contact your airline and amend the date instead of cancelling the whole trip if you’re on a long holiday. Or, if that’s not possible, you may need to request a refund and get new tickets (however, the flight tickets drop super low now even starting from 50THB, so no worries!) But, make it super-super sure that it won’t be canceled again. Another great option is travel somewhere a few hours drive away from the capital city. You do not always need to get on a flight to the beach or scenic mountains! Check out Amazing Beaches Near Bangkok

Those who are coming to Thailand soon: If you are definitely still visiting Thailand and your flight still operates normally, in the case that the airlines cancel your flight or suspend the routes, you should be able to ask for a refund. Contact your hotels with your proof of flight cancellation, most hotels have regulations on this situation now, so better talk it out rather than losing your money! On a full Asia trip? Do CHECK OUT your flight leaving Bangkok to the nearby countries that might be lock-down (e.g. Malaysia), or even to be more precise the city and airport status!

Those who are planning to: Yes, we believe that most of the traveler coming on a long-haul flight to Bangkok would want to explore other cities of Thailand too. But, keep in mind that DO NOT book the domestic flight straight away (well, your oversea flight, too) Because, currently there’s an increase flight/route change between major cities such as Phuket, Chiang Mai, Krabi, etc. And, they at least one of them is definitely in your plan. So, keep it later. If you are not coming on a Prime time like April 2021, but something in between, you can even book it a few days before you hop on and the domestic flight prices are pretty cheap!
